The Key to Sustainable Weight Loss

Shift your mind to shift your weight!
Losing weight is hard, keeping it off is even harder.
Extreme dieting or lifestyle change without a mindset change inevitably leads to weight regain.
Often our focus is on exercise regimens, the latest fad diet, the newest medication, or surgery.
These are effective, and I support them.
However, a key component often missing is doing the deep work needed to change how you relate to food.
Below I will list Mindshift techniques that I recommend.
Understand why you want to lose weight.
Knowing the reason you want to lose weight is central to your weight loss journey.
Is it to be active with your kids? Avoid diabetes? Participate in activities you have avoided due to your weight?
Having a well-defined purpose for why you want to lose weight helps keep you motivated and can give you the strength to carrying on when you encounter moments of weakness.
Mindful Eating
Become a conscious eater. Ask your self before you eat are you truly hungry? Does your body need energy?
Just this pause to understand why you are eating when done consistently can stop unconscious eating patterns or triggered eating.
Practise Gratitude
Everyday be thankful for all the good in your life.
Journalling daily is a structured way to express this. Gratitude creates a positive and empowered mindset.
This will help you tackle the stresses of daily life and minimize emotional eating and increase your resilience.
Affirmation
Empowering statements said with belief daily in the present tense communicate to your subconscious that they are true.
If this is done consistently, it will empower you to make positive changes in your life. It also helps to write your affirmation out daily.
Over time with consistent affirmation practise these positive empowering thoughts will crowd out negative beliefs you have about your self and your weight. You become what you think.
Sustained weight loss requires a Mindshift. The above practices if done daily will help you cultivate a mindset that empowers you to have more control over your eating and relationship with food.
